What is a backup offer?

A backup offer is a contract placed behind an accepted offer in case the first deal falls apart. It keeps you in position without restarting the search completely.

Why would I use one?
Because the first accepted offer may fail during inspection, financing, or appraisal.

Do backup offers bind the seller?
Yes, if properly accepted, but only if the first deal does not close.

Is it worth it?
It can be, especially on a home you really want.

Can I keep shopping?
Yes, unless your backup contract says otherwise.

What is the downside?
You may wait and miss other opportunities.
