Eardley Avenue cuts diagonally across the numbered-street grid, shortening successive streets along the town’s southeastern boundary. Eighth is the last numbered street to end at that diagonal; farther west, the streets extend to Sinex Avenue, the grid’s southern limit. Near Eighth Street’s endpoint, this Cape Cod Revival cottage makes a vivid impression with its deep turquoise siding and crisp white trim.

A neatly clipped hedge borders the front garden, its flat top below a white picket fence. Near the right-hand side, the hedge turns inward beside the entrance path, and a picket gate opens into the yard. The low greenery, pointed pickets, and taller gateposts establish three distinct heights across the frontage, with the white fence repeating the house’s trim color.

Two broad, white-trimmed gabled dormers dominate the turquoise-blue façade. Beneath each peak, an arched detail crowns a pair of divided-light windows, giving the dormers more elaborate treatment than the projecting windows below. Blue horizontal siding between them makes their white surrounds especially prominent. Low front eaves place the upper level within the roof, producing the cottage’s compact, one-and-a-half-story form. Beside the right dormer, a tall chimney has a pale, irregular masonry surface, a projecting cap, and a dark hood, a rough-textured counterpart to the smooth siding and precise white trim.

Three Things I Love About the Home

The Paired Dormers
Twin peaks turn the sloping roof into the cottage’s signature feature.

The Sculptural Chimney
Clusters of protruding bricks give a smooth surface an artistic finish.

The Bay Windows
Fine grids give the broad windows a delicate, detailed finish.
